Because I have been asked this question many times I am posting this note. This is being forwarded from the online help section. Revised September 9, 2003
Q: What is my Internet Email address at FOL? A: For someone to send mail to you at fol they should send it to your firstname.lastname@foln.org Mine, for example, is david.powers@foln.org Note: this is all lowercase with a period between names. This is the main reason that I recommend not using an initial in your name when you register onto the system. If you did I likely removed it when I raised your permission level.
Q: How do I send mail to someone else?
A: To send mail to an FOL member simply begin typing part of their name and hit return It will autofill or give you a list of choices.
To send mail to someone else on another system you must know their address there. It usually is an abbreviation, or number, or something other than their actual name. Let us call it their userid (not to be confused with your User ID used for logging in to FOL).
You also need to know what their system's name is on the Internet. That name is called a domain. FOL's domain is foln.org
To send mail to them I would address it in this format:
Q: How do I send a reply to email I receive? A: If you receive mail from someone and wish to reply, use the Reply command . Highlight the text before you do this and the hightlighted text will be included. FirstClass will automatically properly address your reply.
Please make sure to check to whom you are sending it to before you hit send. If you were included in a big list and you hit reply you will send your mail to everyone on that list. You may want to remove to unwanted recipients or simply start over and select (in the Message menu) reply special > reply original author.
Some more Q & A
Q: My return address in the message I created just shows my regular first and last name. Do I have to change it? A: No. You do not need to worry about your return address on internet email sent out by FirstClass. Our internet gateway takes care of that.
Q: May I subscribe to mail lists? A: Certainly
Q: How fast does mail move? A: It depends on how many systems it must go through. On the net is not uncommon to get a reply from remote parts of the world in seconds to minutes. It depends on the size of the message.
