Zipped file.  Be careful not to write over your previous client directory.
Rename it to fcwin2 or something before installing this.
It’s a big file!!!  Remember if you run out of time downloading it then you can resume tomorrow by resuming the download and by saying yes when it asks you if you want to replace the partially downloded file.  It should take 20-30 minutes with a 28.8 modem
If you want to quit after you start your download, you can, and it will logoff as soon as it is finished.

Announcing FirstClass 3.5

SoftArc has delivered a facelift and exciting new features to FirstClass 3.5,
the latest version of its award-winning e-mail and collaboration software.

FirstClass 3.5 makes electronic communication easier and more effective than
ever. It introduces a spelling checker, offline replication of e-mail and
conferences, drag-and-drop capabilities, user-defined toolbars, exciting new
development tools, and more.

In addition to new clients and servers, new products join the FirstClass
family. Now available are a FirstClass Client for Windows 95 and a FirstClass
Client for DOS.

FirstClass 3.5 offers substantial improvements for sites with Mac OS servers. A
Power Macintosh-native FirstClass Server delivers incredible speed increases
with native Open Transport support. Backups have been dramatically simplified.
And a new FirstClass Gateway for SMTP/NNTP, available for Mac OS, allows
FirstClass sites to connect to the Internet easily and painlessly--for a
surprisingly low price!

With this new release, FirstClass continues to offer features and performance
simply not possible with Internet e-mail, or other e-mail and groupware
products. SoftArc pays close attention to what organizations like yours need
for internal and external communication. FirstClass 3.5 is the latest result of
listening carefully to you.

FirstClass Client . . . for DOS!

A new FirstClass Client for DOS lets users of PCs without Microsoft Windows
enjoy the benefits of FirstClass e-mail and groupware.

Working on a platform still important to many companies and schools around the
world, DOS users can now send e-mail and collaborate with colleagues. The
FirstClass Client for DOS is freely distributable, like SoftArc's other
FirstClass Clients, and runs on any PC with 640 KB of RAM and 1 MB of free hard
disk space.

To accept connections from DOS computers, FirstClass Servers, version 3.1 or
earlier, must be licensed with SoftArc's previously available Command Line User
Interface. Newer servers must be licensed with Text Services for FirstClass,
which also allows connections from terminals and terminal emulators.

FirstClass Gateway for SMTP/NNTP

SoftArc's FirstClass Gateway for SMTP/NNTP marks the beginning of a new era of
reliability and ease of Internet messaging.

This new Mac OS-based Internet mail and news product is specifically optimized
for FirstClass. It supports instant mail transmission independent of news
delivery, and uses Multipurpose Internet Mail Extension (MIME) extensively. It
also functions as a POP3 client.

The FirstClass Gateway for SMTP/NNTP can be used with FirstClass Servers of
either platform. It can even be run on the same computer as a FirstClass Server
for Mac OS.

The FirstClass Gateway for SMTP/NNTP is available for $495 U.S. Registered
owners of SoftArc's FirstClass UUCP Internet Gateway can upgrade to the new
product for $250 U.S. Prices through resellers may vary. Owners of SoftArc's
Delphic ExpressNet/SMTP receive the product free of charge.

[ SoftArc has chosen to delay the release of the FirstClass Gateway for
SMTP/NNTP by several weeks.  This decision was made after this newsletter was
sent to press.  Look for an announcement soon of this product's availability. ]

More third-party products

Many developers now produce add-on products that extend the functions of
FirstClass for over five million FirstClass users at 22,000 sites worldwide.

For schools: Dream Weaver Communications' Binary High and Virtual Classroom
applications transform FirstClass into an exciting, graphical communication
tool for children working in classrooms or participating in distance education.
It's an easy and fun way for kids to learn the writing and teamwork skills they
need to succeed. For more information, contact Dream Weaver Communications at
613-599-4428.

Communication gateways: Businesses needing better communication with branch
offices and other companies can link their FirstClass systems to products such
as cc:Mail, Lotus Notes, Microsoft Mail, and Novell GroupWise. TenFour's TFS
Gateway is a modular product that also connects FirstClass to MCI Mail and the
Internet. Contact TenFour USA at 800-837-0046 or 703-716-8364, TenFour Sweden
at +46 8 591 27900, or send e-mail to info@tenfour.com.

File transfer: Organizations that often transfer files using FirstClass should
investigate Pine Island Software's upload and download products. These
utilities monitor FirstClass conferences and automate the transfer of both
messages and files. Text can even be brought into other applications through
scripting. Pine Island Software can be reached at 317-570-0641.

And more to come: SoftArc supports its growing number of partners through the
SoftArc Development Partnership Program. This program provides developers with
services and resources to help in the development and marketing process. For
information on SoftArc's Development Partnership Program, contact SoftArc
Developer Relations at 905-415-7000 or over the Internet at devco@softarc.com.

FirstClass Training

SoftArc offers a series of training courses for both administrators and users
of FirstClass systems.

Administration courses are offered at two levels--basic and advanced--and are
designed for system administrators or support personnel responsible for the
installation or maintenance of FirstClass. User courses offer a hands-on
workshop for new users to experiment with FirstClass features and customize
preferences and desktops.

SoftArc also offers a course on the FirstClass Designer application for
administrators interested in making the most of their e-mail and groupware
system by creating customized forms and interfaces.

Training courses are held monthly at SoftArc's corporate head office in
Markham, Ontario, Canada. Courses are also held periodically in the U.S. and
Europe, and at customer sites upon request. For course descriptions and price
information, contact SoftArc Training at 905-415-7000 or send e-mail to
training@softarc.com.

SoftArc International

marketing services to FirstClass resellers outside North America. In addition
to filling orders, the office offers technical support and trade show and other
marketing assistance for distributors and international consultants.

This past year, SoftArc International organized SoftArc's participation in

The next twelve months will bring expansion of the company's international
